What is the Tenby Ironman Race?

On Sunday 8th September 2013 a beautiful sunrise in Tenby set the scene for this amazing race – The Ironman!  An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a marathon 26.2-mile run, raced in that order and without a break. We were lucky enough to see the swimmers warm up and then set off!

The start of the race is at North Beach. After exiting the waters of Carmarthen Bay after the 3.8km swim, the athletes took on the challenge of the 180km bike course through the breathtaking countryside of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, passing many castles and landmarks. The medieval town walls and picturesque beach front provided an impressive backdrop for the concluding marathon through Tenby. Athletes had until midnight to compete the race!

The race is scheduled already to return in 2014 on 14 September. Check out Tenby Ironman 2014 for more details!  Not to be missed!
